Touch The Sky

It was the fear that made me begin, the temptation that made me continue, but in the end, all that mattered was the determination. The three words, fear, temptation and determination are very close to one another. For when we are fearful, it is only then can we conquer it and move ahead. “I do not fear anything in the world”, well then, how will I ever move forward.

I am afraid of heights. Actually, scratch that. I am not afraid of heights, but I am afraid of falling from them. Truthfully, who wouldn’t be? If someone asked me to walk on a thin rope across a long distance, without a harness while I am 50 metres above the ground, I would freak! Now that I think over it again, when I am up in the air, without a harness, I am not afraid of falling down either, the thing that I fear in that situation is death.

Many people say, ‘Why fear death?’ I agree. What has to happen, will eventually happen. However, I also believe in creating your own destiny. For instance, imagine a tobacco consumer. That consumer understands that the tobacco will harm their lungs; however, they still chose to have it. Then, it is not the natural or human cause instigating death; it is the individual’s own actions. This individual is creating their own destiny in a negative direction.

I will fly, chase the wind and touch the sky
Now, imagine a happy man. When this happy man strives for things in life and applies his dedication and hard work to the little things that he does, he builds a future for himself. He builds a destiny, a goal and instigates a positive atmosphere. Then, when that man spreads his wings in the air, smiles heavenwards and says, “Why fear death?”, I believe him.

I was fearful of heights once, but I had a temptation to touch the sky. I still strive for it, and now, I am determined to reach it. I am not afraid of falling anymore, for now I know that the arms of faith and hope are there to catch me if I do. And if I do fall, I will try again, work harder and never let my determination falter. And one day, I will reach my destiny!

A Hero Lives; Independence Day 2012

I am not a relative of a warrior, but I do believe that there is a hero in everyone. Here is a short excerpt that I have written about the grief felt by someone on the loss of a relative in war. I have not felt it myself, but I believe this short writing expresses my feelings as if I am in the shoes of the protagonist.

A Hero Lives

With a stinging eye and tears welling in my eyes, I sit down to write this feeling of distraught. Even though this pain is not physical, it stings like a leech which was just laid on my skin. I feel myself burn and crumple to the ground. The meaning of life is lost.
I am oblivious to emotions, the pain, the suffering. But he, he died a hero. The child that dwells within me knows that his father will always be there with us. He died in mid air, trying to save his country from the evils of war.
The country will get other fighters, more heroes, but soon these heroes would have a battle for life too. They all have families awaiting them, a wife with her one month old child cradled in her arms; not sure whether the baby will ever see its father. This is the time that peace came. Not guns, not bombs and not war or fight, but let talk sort out differences.
When my baby boy is born, he will be as daring as his father. When I feel him move inside my belly, I know that he will be the most respectful and understanding person I have ever known. And, his father, wherever he may be, will always be a part of him, and a part of me.

Everyday many fighters go to war, and leave their lives at gunpoint. On this Independence Day, while we are celebrating our independence and freedom, these soldiers are out there protecting our freedom. I take this platform, this blog, to salute all those who have their life on the field of war. I also wish that the differences would be talked out rather than fought with guns. Because after all, pen is mightier than the sword.
God, the one who created us, did not send us down divided. We are all united, in one same way, we were all sent down on the earth mysteriously. Even with all scientific discoveries of how we are born, and how a single cell gives rise to us, the mystery of why we are here is still unresolved.
I would like to sign off by saying that some mysteries are better left unanswered and that every disagreement can be talked out.

I salute all the families who have been through grievances as they lost their loved ones at war. I salute all those families who still stay strong. I salute all the soldiers fighting to help me be safe where I live. I salute you and wish you a happy Independence Day.

HELP! (Poem on Domestic Violence)

Here is a short poem that I wrote on domestic violence and keeping faith. Please do leave your comments and reviews!

I scream for you, now I am locked
save me, open me, let me crawl out
I am struggling to walk and reach the door
he hit me, beat me, jailed me in
and walked away, as if I never existed.

My hands are cuffed, bruised and bleeding
my eyes are red because of the tears streaming down
help me, save me, and find me a way
to break free and fly away.

Then the sun ray hits my face
I look up and see Him smiling
I hear His voice say, 'I am always there'
and I am healed.

He helped me up, get back back on my feet
to face the world and beat defeat
a face that never smiled has lit up now
a hope has dawned, determination follows.

Even if you hit me, beat me, or kill me now
I will never die, but will be immortal
because with love and happiness,
I can conquer the whole world, and not just you.
